ST. THOMAS CATHEDRAL, KALYAN WEST
MOTHER OF VICTORY SHRINE, TIKUJI-NI-WADI

In 1571 when the Turks laid siege to the city of Vienna Pope Pius V called upon the Christians to pray the Rosary. The soldiers inscribed the name ‘Holy Mary’ on their flags. The Turks who were much larger in number and considerably superior in their weaponry could quite miraculously be defeated by the Christian army. The Pope declared that the day must be observed as the Feast Day of Mother of Victory. Moreover, the heresy that was prevailing in the Catholic Church could be eliminated by praying the Rosary.
An ordinary lady, Antonie Radler (1899-1991) used to go to the top of a hill in the village to pray and later, led by divine intervention and supernatural influences, a prayer centre was established there. Today, Wigratgbad prayer centre is a pilgrim centre of Augsburg Diocese in Germany.
On Sunday, 2nd February 2003 Rev. Fr. Thomas Rimmel Director of
Wigratgbad pilgrim centre consecrated a wooden replica of the statue of Mother of Victory in the Syro-Malabar Church, Tikujiniwadi, Thane (Kalyan Diocese). Seeking recourse in the powerful intercession of Mother of Victory, the faithful participate in the Holy Mass, Novena (English, Marathi and Malayalam) and the Eucharistic Adoration on all Wednesdays.
